Ya Just Never Know..

After a 10 hour journey, we arrived in Plano just as Rob, Thomas & David were getting ready to leave for a pack meeting.  Jolyn and Amanda were at a YW meeting and Nicholas was curled up on the couch not feeling well.  After quick hugs all around, we volunteered to stay home with Nicholas and out the door the boys went.  We helped ourselves to some of Jolyn's delicious stew and homemade bread then settled in to keep Nicholas company.  Grandpa was soon plunked down on the floor with Nicholas being instructed on how to play his favorite game. It was a fun introduction to the busy, busy life they lead.  Eventually, everyone was back home again and we had a pleasant time visiting and catching up.  But, soon we all agreed it had been a long day and it was time for scriptures, prayers and bed.

This was my favorite event.. the rescue.

The next morning Amanda mentioned that she had seen advertisements for the Texas State Tree Climbing  Contest that was being held in a local park.  Ok, this was practically irresistible.  A tree climbing contest??  Really?? Yeah, we all decided we had to check this out!  So, well supplied with sunblock, water and hats, off we went. I have to say this turned out to be far more interesting than any of us expected.  It seems that the sport of Tree Climbing is highly competitive and that there is not only a National Championship but an International one.  Who knew??  There were 5 or 6 events ranging from  rescue to freestyle speed climbing- all highly regulated with a panel of judges.  Actually, quite fascinating.  It was a fun morning although by lunchtime we were ready to get out of the muggy heat and find something to eat..

I think Nicholas had about enjoyed this enough at this point.

Oops.  Well, at least we got the TOP of Nicholas' head!  LOL  (I think I get the prize for the most chic look.)

  1. You look totally chic, mama lou! Sounds like a unique experience. I think it would be fun to go to a tree climbers competition.
