Down Memory Lane

One of the reasons this week was so special is that we were able to spend time reconnecting with good friends.  On Friday, after a pleasant morning with Wayne, Vette and the kids, we headed to Farmington.  Nate and Maria were getting ready to leave for Provo when we arrived at their house.  They were running a half marathon the next morning and had booked a hotel room there so they could make it to the registration and starting line on time. It continued to be cold and stormy- we certainly didn't envy them their plans!  We had a much more pleasant agenda in mind. :)  We had arranged to meet our good buddies from Germany, Blaine and Jan Greenhaulgh, for dinner at Applebees.. Blaine was the Bishop of the Wiesbaden Ward when we arrived in Germany and Bill became his counselor a few months later, eventually becoming his replacement when they moved back to the States.  We had wonderful times together and became very good friends so it was fun to catch up on each other's lives and do a little bit of 'remember when'. It was so wonderful to see them again!

But our evening wasn't over yet.  After hugs and goodbyes we began driving back to Farmington.  But, we realized it was still fairly early so, on a whim, we decided to give the Steiner's a call to see what they were up to.  They kindly invited us over and we spent the rest of the evening with them-  We really enjoyed our time there exchanging family news and hearing the latest on the good ol' Kaysville 4th Ward gang.
The time with friends continued the next day as we attended the wedding reception of Anthon Petty at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. (former Hotel Utah)  The Pettys were also in the Wiesbaden Ward and we had watched Anthon grow thru his Jr High and High School years eventually leaving for BYU and a mission.  They too had become dear friends and we were delighted to see them all again and to meet Anthon's new bride.
We were lucky enough to be seated with Dave & Kelly Welker and their twins, Kristin and Kelsey. Dave was Blaine's other counselor when Bill was called into that Bishopric and Kelly was one of my Polish pottery shopping buddies.  Good times! The girls, who were in Jr High when they left Germany, are now college students.  Wow.  That time went by fast!  We made so many good friends in our years in Germany.

Kristin and Kelsey-they had such a great time with the disposable cameras that were on each table.  They used up ours then went around to other tables to make sure no pictures went unused.  Too cute!

After the reception we decided we had one more visit we needed to make.  We stopped in to see Barla and Leland Jones, our dear friends from the Kaysville 1st Ward.  Again, we loved catching up on their family and the ward news.  There truly is no greater treasure than good friends- We are richly blessed!

  1. Fun, fun, fun!! A trip of reunions :). I have fond memories of the Germany folks from the summer I spent with you. I'm so glad you got to be a part of an AMAZING ward.
